A Very Fine French Mid 19th Century Louis XV Style Gilt-Bronze Mounted and Tulipwood Marquetry Bombe' Two-Drawer Commode with Marble Top, By Maison Boudet, Paris, After a model by Jean Baptiste Hedouin (French, 1738-1783). Circa: Paris, 1880.

Operating from their large Parisian premises at 25, Rue Chaligny and 43, boulevard des Capucines from 1886, and on the place Vendôme after 1908, the firm of Boudet was one of the most important Parisian retailers of haut luxe furniture, bronzes, objets d'art, silver and even jewellery. Furniture makers and sculptors who supplied them with merchandise, which was then stamped with the Boudet name, included among others Zwiener, Linke, Millet and Bonheur. The more important cachet of Boudet is illustrated here by their name engraved on the lock-plate. Boudet is recorded by Denise Ledoux-Lebard, Le Mobilier Francais du XIXieme siecle, Paris 1989, p95. A bureau plat cartonnier by Boudet in kingwood and mounted in gilt-bronze was sold by Sotheby's New York in October 1982 and sold again lot 144, Sotheby's New York, March 13th 1997. An important pair of massive Louis XV style ormolu-mounted kingwood, mahogany and end-cut marquetry commodes by Boudet was sold at Christie's New York on 26 october 2004, Sale 1426, Lot 425 for $231,500
