Dasson, Henry: 106 rue Vieille-du-Temple. (1825-1896) Important furniture maker using the very finest ormolu mounts with high quality mercurial gilding. Specialized in copies of eighteenth century models, manly in the Louis XVI style. Exhibited Louis XV, XVI pieces of his own modified eighteenth century design at the 1878 Paris Exhibition. Dasson closed down his business in 1894.

Description:

A Very Fine Museum Quality French 19th Century Louis XVI Style Mahogany and Gilt-Bronze Mounted Bijouterie Vitrine Table by Henri Dasson, with a glazed, hinged top and sides within a molded bronze frame, opening to a fitted, upholstered interior, resting on a mahogany table top with cast laurel frame, raised on fluted, tapered legs headed by bronze capitals and joined by lower incurved stretchers centered by a bronze rosette, on toupie feet. The underside stamped, "Henry Dasson, 1884" and the foot mount signed, "Henry Dasson, 1884" as well.   

Provenance: Purchased by a collector in 1976 from The Dallas Estate of Lily Pons (1898-1976).
She studied at the Paris Conservatoire and made her Opera debut in 1928. She was a principal soprano with the Metropolitan Opera from  1931-1961 and appeared in three Hollywood motion pictures.
