Description:

A Very Fine French Napoleon III Ormolu-Mounted Cut-Brass/Silver and Red Tortoiseshell-Inlaid Ebony and Ebonised "Boulle" Figural Upright Piano by Erard, the ormolu by Henri Picard. The ebonised case surmounted on each end by a pair of finely chased ormolu seated cherubs. The case is numbered 16177 and also bears an inventory metal plaque from Harrods Ltd. London with inventory No. 57877. The apron above the keyboard is also inscribed "Harrods Ltd. SW1" Circa: 1870

The fondeur and doreur Henri Picard was recorded at 6 rue Jarente in 1831, and moved to 10 rue de la Perle in 1839. The firm supplied objects to Emperor Napoleon III's apartments at the Louvre, and was reputed for its fine quality decorative production of bronzes, pièce de table and garnitures de cheminée.
