
Description:
A Very Fine Pair of French 19th/20th Century Directoire Style Ormolu and Rouge Griotte Marble Side-Tables. The finely executed mercury gilt-bronze rectangular frames, each with corner Greek key and square loop handle terminals, on four fluted supports jpimed by geometrical stretchers, all terminating in pieds à sabots (Hoofed feet), fitted with an affixed octagonal shape Rouge Griotte marble top with canted corners and finished with a molded, beveled edge featuring multiple stepped profiles. Known for its deep, rich cherry-red (or ruby-red) color that evokes the Morello cherry ("griotte" in French). The surface displays a mottled pattern with irregular dark red to burgundy tones, interspersed with finer blackish veining and scattered lighter specks, creating a lively, organic texture typical of this stone. Circa: 1900.
